How you have helped GAFFI so far? Contributed to estimating the incidence and prevalence of fungal disease in Sierra Leone. Published a cross-sectional study on cryptococcal antigenaemia in HIV.
Personal comment on the major needs in Denmark which GAFFI should be addressing:
Fungal infections are completely neglected diseases in Sierra Leone and as a result of this; diagnostic and treatment services are largely unavailable. Again, most health service providers and policymakers are unaware of the huge burden of fungal infections in the country.
GAFFI can support Sierra Leone in the following aspects of prevention and control of fungal infections:
1. Strengthen diagnostic and treatment capacity for fungal infections
2. Support awareness raising about the burden of fungal infections among healthcare workers and policy makers
3. Encourage national and international advocacy for governments and international agencies to prioritize the prevention and control of fungal infections (financing, governance structures, research and development, diagnostic and treatment supports etc.)
4. Strengthen knowledge through research and surveillance. atment services are largely unavailable.
